The HBC Point blanket collection.
Being new to Canada I'm learning daily about your habits and Heritage and while walking through a Bay store recently I happened upon a wonderful striped blanket that took me straight back to my early years of caring for our horses on chilly winter evenings and mornings!
Before the horse world saw a revolution in stable husbandry, thanks to the technological breakthroughs in textiles (and suddenly, the much loved, and rather pampered inhabitants of our stable block, had a wardrobe that matched my own...) we used to keep them snuggly warm with beige woollen blankets, edged with green and red stripes, under very basic jute rugs.
They do say that early experiences leave their mark, and I'm sure it's true, as I have had a marked love of both jute, and woollen blankets ever since!
So imagine how my heart warmed when I visited the HBC site (http://www.hbc.com/) and saw a page dedicated to “Blanket tales” about people and their point blankets, part of the HBC heritage range, and found that the “Whitney” Horse Blankets of my youth were made by the very same company that manufactured the first HBC Point blanket! The second company to fill that role was based in Yorkshire, in the North of England, the playground of my childhood, and the birth place of the horse that shared my life for over 30 years. What a coincidence!
So, as you can guess, an HBC Point blanket is on the list for our next shopping trip, and although I doubt this one will travel further than the foot of my bed, it's good to know my feet are being warmed by shared experiences, quality and simplicity. Just the recipe for a great, and gorgeous product that will last and last! Check out the classic stripes, that are at the same time ultimately contemporary, and start imagining where you can place them around your home...Happy shopping, and I'll look out for you all in the queue!
