Weekend Reading, “North America through the eyes of a European”

Episode 5 : Business calls...
It was all well and good taking time out to get house and home together, but I was here on a12 month working permit, and time was ticking...
We'd envisaged re-creating our French retail business over here, but I still wanted to check out the reality of life in the furniture trade on this new Continent.  I quickly realized that it would be an expensive, and slower route, than we needed at this point of our business lives, so I decided to look again at a new concept that I'd started working on before I left Europe, and see where it would take us...

It is true what they say...North America is a land of opportunity! I truly believe that any good business idea can see the light of day here. You guys are SO generous and open to new ideas. You knock on a door and pretty soon...it opens! It rarely happened like this where we'd come from, so you can imagine the crazy ride my mind took me on! I put my new concept to one side as quickly as I'd revived it, knowing that it was so good it would surface of it's own accord before too long (watch this space!) and started to really think about what else was possible, given this kind of business environment.

I'd met a couple of very sound business people during my search for professionals to get my new product to manufacture, and fate being on my side they were ready and willing to get involved in the vision of this “strange newcomer”!

Our newest, and most important concept to date (after the children of course) was under way...

I'd decided to fly in the face of the objections and call it “design at distance”. And why were there objections? Simply because the word, “distance” is probably the worst word to include in a company specializing in a personal service like ours: interior design.

However, as a staunch believer in transparency, I wanted to be as open as possible about what we do: design...at distance!
