We had a major concept on our hands.
I recognized immediately that this was a “gift” that only comes along once in a lifetime. The chance to use all the professional skills you've built up over the years is an amazing luxury. And I knew that I was going to need them all to pull this one together so it would work on a national...then an international level. Because this was definitely an “International Concept” we had here. And I needed to create it as such from day 1....
What was most important was the idea itself: affordable interior design, conveniently packaged for gift-giving: such a win-win concept for everyone involved! The customers, the designers, the industry itself (the standards we set today will have a positive effect on the whole interior design industry tomorrow), AND bring work and consistent training to a significant quantity of young designers.
But as a brand new arrival on a Continent that didn't know me, or my work, from Adam (or Eve)?
It wasn't going to be plain sailing. I was going to have to lay myself at the mercy of some big players in the industry and hope they saw the sense in where I was wanting to go. And they did!
We had our first major supporters on board, and my concept confirmed as viable. Now it needed built.
My working life in Canada had begun!
