I'm a sucker for pretty suitcases and sailors chests (the wooden variety...honestly!) and can never talk myself out of buying them: not only because they're pretty, and make me feel nostalgic, but because they can always be used to store things that you don't use regularly.
Some of mine are currently holding special handbags, (although I love to have some out on show, they do tend to fade and are a pain to dust!) and seeing it's winter, my summer dresses, scarves and beach wear...
I've a lovely old collection of leather suitcases from the '40's that I use, stacked one on top of the other, as a side table in the living room. The smallest one holds the “Wii” handsets, and is a great place to “dump” those small bits and pieces that always seem to lie around on the coffee table...The other two are slightly “off the wall”, but very useful places to hold my household tools and the family's “medicine cabinet”, out of sight (locked) and ultimately portable!
