With so many qualified designers out there, who makes an “ideal” design at distance designer?
Many designers don't want to design under any brand name but their own, and many designers already have a reseaux of regular clients: they're doing great. But for those who don't fit into either of these categories, design at distance is an ideal fit.
We are in an enviable position of having our own structure, which supports and stretches qualified designers to get the best from their past training and experience. Add further training, coaching and development, and with access to regular customers, our designers grow, and gain in experience.
A invaluable ingredient for successful designers, and successful designs!...
A invaluable ingredient for successful designers, and successful designs!...
So what do we look for?
Interior design is the ultimate personal service, and we want our customers to have a great experience.
So first and foremost we look for designers with a great attitude, coupled with a real desire to help people improve their surroundings to suit their needs.
We want our designers to be open to solutions and products they may not have encountered during their training, and we need them to have great people skills: to be articulate and have a pleasant manner when gathering information about your project, and explaining their design direction and product choices. Remember, our designers interact with our customers over the phone, and if needed, through video conference. They can have the best ideas in the world, but if they cannot present them to you simply and clearly?...not so great!
So when does talent come into the picture? Well, you know what? being part of the design at distance team gives designers access to a boat load of talent (roomfuls in fact!) and years of experience.
And every time we bring in a new team member, and every time we design a room for a customer, our group experiences grow, because we share them!
It's a concept that enriches everyone in the team, and one that shows in our designs.
It's a concept that enriches everyone in the team, and one that shows in our designs.
But we do expect our designers to bring with them a good understanding of space, and how to visualize potential changes to existing layouts. Other skills are learnt and are honed with use, because nothing beats quality experience. And in the meantime, we suggest, modify and guide each designer through their projects, and give them access to hand-picked specialists to make sure their designs are the best they can be, until they arrive at a level where they themselves may start guiding and coaching newer designers.
The positive version of “what goes around, comes around”!
