Ikea, is still the "King of the off-the-shelf-" kitchen in my eyes. Long before it became public knowledge, we knew that lots of the carcasses found in higher priced kitchens shared the same manufacturer as Ikea. And many more used carcasses of a lesser quality. All this to say: Ikea is a great choice, WILL stand the test of time, and offers a great range. BUT, I'd advise on paying the price to get them professionally fitted. It can add a significant amount to the end price, but believe me, you can see it in the end result!

What about the other kitchen companies? Well, like everything you buy, you need to shop around and find out what suits your tastes, and your pocket! Off-the-shelf doesn't necessarily mean good value for money, so make sure you see the "bottom line" figure, and are happy with it before signing on the dotted line.

Custom may be alternative, especially for a small space. Not always so much more expensive when compared to some high street options, and guaranteed to give you all the toys you need, so long as you've thought it through in advance...

Do think about how long you'll be living in this home. If you're tempted to a really individual kitchen, it may be best to wait until you're in your dream home before breaking the bank, as the next person to buy your home may not have quiet the same tastes.
