d@d, set to become the Ikea of the interior design industry!

Why is design at distance being talked about as 'the Ikea of the interior design industry'?
We like to think it's because our goal is to democratize interior design, just as Ikea has done for design furniture and accessories.

Before Ikea, good design was reserved for the 'better off' among us.
Call it 'modern', call it contemporary, call it trendy... whatever you call (or called) it, it just wasn't available at a price that 'the man' (and woman) in the street could afford, or had easy access to!
But Ikea changed all that, turning design into a mass market, retail product, creating desire as it grew and evolved. Some of us may remember the days when every other (am I being kind here, was it really every box?) box missed a fitting, or a screw, and took muscle, and time and a building site vocabulary, but those days are long gone. Today, build time has been greatly reduced and simplified, and even the most luxurious interiors often boast pieces from Ikea.

In my humble opinion, Ikea is the clear winner of 'retail concept of the century'. I cannot think of another concept that has changed the quality of life of so many home-lovers, because having a home that works for you and your lifestyle, and suits you style definitely effects your quality of life.

Will the prediction come true? I certainly hope so, not only for us as a company, but for our designers and our commercial partners that have supported us to date, and our customers: home-lovers the world over.

One things for sure, our basic values are the same: to reduce the cost of traditionally high-priced products and pass the savings onto customers, making value-for-money products available to everyone.

The 'unplanned' d@d effect.
When I created design at distance, my goal was 'simply' to democratize interior design, although forgive me if that sounds a little like calling Mount Everest a 'steep climb'. But something else happened along the way. As we started looking for designers, they stopped being a part of the business puzzle, and quickly become part of the design at distance team.
Part of our responsibility. To train, to support, to develop. And I realized that the interior design industry is a hard industry. Many qualified designers struggle to find work, struggle to get paid for all their work, and struggle to continue to learn and grow professionally.

design at distance is set to change the reality of the interior design industry, one customer at a time.
